Washburn Tech- Accuplacer Info Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors, If you are interested or considering attending Washburn Tech please shoot Ms. Heitman an email or stop by sometime. I can provide you with program and testing information. The accuplacer is the entrance exam to Washburn Tech. Washburn Tech is coming to St. Marys High on October 19th at 11:30 to give the test. We even have funds this year to help defer testing costs. I have study materials available that I would be happy to share with you as well. Parent/Teacher Conferences Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on Monday, October 3rd and Wednesday, October 5th from 4:00-8:00pm with a dinner break for the teachers from 5:00-5:30pm. Seniors will have scheduled student-led conferences. If you have an underclassmen and you wish to meet with one or more of the teachers you can either contact the individual teacher to schedule a time or stop-by during the times and dates above.

JV & C Team Volleyball The JV & C team volleyball players need to be dressed in your uniforms before getting on the bus to Rossville today. The bus will be leaving @ 4:05pm.

No School There is no school on Friday, October 7th due to PT Conferences.

Mama Bears ATTENTION ALL MAMA BEARS!!! We will have a Mama Bear Float in the Homecoming parade on Friday. This is for all Mama Bears of student athletes participating in Fall sports, band, cheerleading and drill team. We will meet at the high school parking lot at 12:30 p.m. and drive to the park for the parade line up. Bring your own candy to throw if you wish. GO BEARS!!!!

Homecoming Dance The homecoming dance will be Saturday, October 8th from 7pm to 9pm. The cost to attend is $5 per person. Outside date forms are due Wednesday, October 5th.

Homecoming Week Activities Homecoming activities for next week will be Monday: 6PM - Powder Puff Football Game, Hayrack Ride following powder puff football game (6:45ish), Shaving Cream fight following hayrack ride (7ish) Friday: Parade lineup starts at 12:30 in city park with parade following at 1:30. Community pep rally after the parade at the high school football stadium (approximately 2:00pm). Homecoming crowning will take place at half time of the football game Friday, October 7th.

Homecoming Spirit Days Homecoming spirit days for next week are: Monday - Self-Care vs Health Care, Tuesday - Adam Sandler Day, Wednesday - Jersey Day, Thursday - Holiday Day, Friday - Class Colors (No School)

FCCLA Please turn in FCCLA Dues by October 26 to be eligible to attend Fall Leadership Conference on November 2nd in Valley Falls. Dues are $30. You can pay online or by bringing cash or a check to Mrs. Graham.

Kaw Valley Financial Aid Night- Juniors & Seniors Juniors and Seniors, This year's Financial Aid Night will be held at St. Marys High School on Wednesday October 5th at 5:30 PM. This evening will also be a parent teacher conference night. Conference information will get pushed out at a later date. However, please consider scheduling your junior/senior conferences around this event. Drew Beets, Washburn University's Financial LIteracy Coordinator, will be the speaker. If you have any questions, please let Ms. Heitman know!

KSU- Powercat Preview Powercat Preview provides a big picture preview of the K-State experience. This day is designed for students who are not yet admitted to K-State, offering exploratory academic and general information sessions. Powercat Preview is free to attend, offering sessions that both future students and their parents/guardians will find valuable. Registration opens for individual event dates six weeks ahead of each event date. Date, time and location All Powercat Preview days start in the K-State Student Union on the Manhattan campus. Kansas Buffalo Association Scholarship The Kansas Buffalo Association is offering a $1000 scholarship to a high school senior or first-year college freshmen who is involved in raising bison and/or is planning to pursue a career in a field related to agriculture. The KBA invites interested applicants to complete an application, provide one letter of reference and submit a 500-word essay outlining their relationship/interest in bison and why they should receive the scholarship. KBA members may act as sponsors to qualify family, friends or a member of a local school or county ag-related organization (FFA, 4H, etc.) for this scholarship. Applications and supporting materials are due by Oct. 15, 2012. The scholarship will be awarded at the 28th Kansas Buffalo Association Sale in Salina, Kan., on Dec. 3, 2022. Either the recipient or his/her designate must be present to accept the scholarship and have a picture taken with representatives from the sponsoring organizations. 2023 Quinton Unruh $10,000 Memorial Grant MERIDEN—Applications and nominations are now open for the 2023 Quinton Unruh $10,000 Memorial Grant, the Woolly Farms Foundation announced Monday. The grant honors the memory of Quint Unruh of Meriden, who died of cancer in November 2020. The grant is awarded to someone who lives life with passion, kindness, leadership, and integrity. Grant recipients demonstrate excellence in academics, athletics, arts, community involvement, environmental stewardship, entrepreneurial spirit, or spiritual development. Applications and nominations can be submitted at alwayswonder.org. The application and nomination deadline is February 1, 2023. The award winner will be notified in March 2023 and presented with the check at the 2023 Woolly Farms Spring Fling gala in April.

KSU Engineering Days KSU Engineering Days- 5 days to choose from! Friday, Sept. 16 | Monday, Oct. 17 | Friday, Nov. 11 | Friday, Jan. 27 | Monday, Feb. 13 The Carl R. Ice College of Engineering is hosting Engineering Senior Experience Day for high school seniors interested in pursuing an engineering degree at K-State. Students will be able to — Explore majors and opportunities to get involved. Interact with faculty and student organizations. Participate in an “engineering for a day” experience. PSAT at SMHS 10/12 The PSAT will be offered to interested sophomores and juniors on Wednesday October 12th. This optional assessment is primarily for two different groups of students: students who are interested in applying to universities out of state where the SAT is an admission requirement should consider taking the PSAT or students who are interested in the National Merit Scholarship Program. If you do not fit into either of these categories, the PSAT will not be helpful to you. Voice of Democracy Competition/Scholarship The Voice of Democracy is open to students in grades 9-12 by the Oct. 31 deadline who are enrolled in a public private or parochial high school or home study program in the United States, its territories and possessions; or dependents of U.S. military or civilian personnel in overseas schools. Although U.S. citizenship is not required, students must be lawful U.S. permanent residents or have applied for permanent residence (the application for which has not been denied) and intends to become a U.S. citizen at the earliest opportunity allowed by law. Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship The 2023 application opened on August 1. Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need. Eligibility: Current high school seniors, or the equivalent, who are citizens of the United States are eligible to apply. Applicants do not need to be related to a member of the Elks. High school graduates are not eligible to apply. Applicants must be citizens of the United States on the date their applications are submitted; permanent legal resident status does not qualify. KSDE-AEOP 2023 Margaret Van Horn Scholarship The scholarship program is open to current Kansas High School, College, and/or Technical School students. Applicant must intend to continue his/her education in an education or business-related program. Applicant must be enrolled in a minimum of nine semester hours (at least half-time). College of Health and Behavioral Sciences at FHSU- Not School Sponsored Event Greetings from the College of Health and Behavioral Sciences at Fort Hays State University! Just a reminder that we will be hosting the 2nd annual Fall College of Health and Behavioral Sciences Day at Fort Hays State University, Friday, October 21st, 2022. This free event is open to high school junior and senior students interested in careers in the health and behavioral sciences. Don’t wait to register as space is limited and spots are filling fast! Students will: Visit all six departments in the College of Health and Behavioral Sciences (Allied Health, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Health and Human Performance, Nursing, Psychology, and Social Work). Hagan Scholarship Dear Seniors and Parents, Attached below you will find information on the Hagan Scholarship. The scholarship basic requirements are included below. We had one Hagan Scholar last school year and would love to have more in the future! (Students have to be interested in Wichita State, Emporia State, or Fort Hays State University.) If you meet the eligibility requirements, please consider applying! Thanks, Ms. Heitman The Hagan Scholarship is a nationwide need-based merit scholarship, designed to provide recipients with the opportunity to graduate college debt-free. Free workshops, Free Schwab Brokerage Accounts and Free Study Abroad provide recipients with a practical understanding of important life skills not typically covered in the school curriculum. Eligibility Requirements 1. Must be a U.S. Citizen. 2. Must attend an Eligible Public High School. 3. Must have achieved a 3.50 Cumulative Grade Point Average. 4. Must enroll at an Eligible (ESU, WSU, FHSU) Four-Year College or University the first semester following high school graduation. 5. Must maintain a four year or less graduation schedule in college. 6. Must work 240 hours each year, from January 1 until commencement of the fall semester in college. Employment must be regularly scheduled work performed under supervision for compensation. 7. Applicant’s Adjusted Gross Household Income reported for Federal Income Tax Purposes must not exceed $85,000. 8. Must provide a complete copy of the FAFSA SAR showing the EFC. 9. Elks Legacy Scholarship Legacy Awards are $4,000 scholarships available to children and grandchildren of Elks members. Eligibility requirements are outlined below. The 2023 contest and application closes on February 6, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time. For the 2023 contest, any child or grandchild (or step-child, step-grandchild, or legal ward) of a living Elk who joined the order on or before April 1, 2020, or a charter member of a Lodge that was instituted on or after April 1, 2020, is eligible to apply. The Elk must also be a paid-up member through March 31, 2023. Great-grandchildren are not eligible. The applicant must be a high school senior. The applicant must apply online only. The 2023 Legacy Awards application deadline is February 6, 2023, 11:59 pm Pacific Time. If the applicant's parent and grandparent are both Elk members, the applicant must apply through the parent's Elks Lodge. We have waived the standardized test requirement for the 2023 Legacy contest. You do not need to submit ACT and/or SAT scores. Students may apply for more than one ENF scholarship; however, they may win only one. In cases where the student wins more than one, we will award the scholarship with the greater value.
