Thank you to all the families who were able to stop by the library on Back to School Night for the Annual Title Meeting. We enjoyed seeing everyone. If you picked up your packet and haven’t returned the signed white copies of the School-Parent Compact for each of your Kind.-6th grade students yet, please send these to school at your earliest convenience.

If you were unable to attend, a packet will be sent home with your oldest student at SMGS this week. As a Title I School, we want this information to be available to all families.

We invite you to read over the SMGS Title I School Family Engagement Policy and the SMGS School-Parent Compact, which details the responsibilities of the school, family, and students. In the packet, there are white copies of the compact for each kindergarten - 6th grade student in your family. Please read, sign, and return these with each of your students.

Title I - Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act is a federally-funded program that provides supplemental support to students. The purpose of Title I is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging state academic standards.

The Title I program at SMGS serves all children at our school and is built on schoolwide strategies involving all teachers. You may see teachers working with small groups in and out of the child’s homeroom, working one-on-one with students, or going into the classroom to support student learning.

If you have any questions regarding the Title I program at SMGS, please feel free to contact Mr. Medley or one of the Title I teachers.

In compliance with Kansas House Bill 2299, Kaw Valley USD 321 is implementing new guidelines for cell phones/personal devices and staff & student communication.

The bill requires each school district to adopt policies and procedures regarding student use of personal devices during the school day to:

â—Ź Require all personal devices to be turned off and securely stored in a location
that is:
○ Not on the student’s person; and
â—‹ Inaccessible to the student

Students' personal devices MUST be powered off and stored OUT OF SIGHT during the entire school day.

Each building will make available a phone for student use when necessary. Please ensure parent contact information for your student(s) is updated in Powerschool.

We know that throughout the year families have many commitments, including trips, vacations, sporting events, and other activities. To help with your planning, we've included a schedule of all the dates students will not be in school during the upcoming school year.

Thank you for partnering with us to make student attendance a priority. We hope this calendar helps families take advantage of the breaks already built into the school year when scheduling activities that can be planned in advance.

You can’t hide that BEAR Pride! We have completed our fence project and it looks amazing! We are so happy to spread a little school spirit both at the grade school and for those who drive by on their way to the JH/HS! We would like to thank the Caring Community Foundation (CCF) for accepting our project and implementing a crowdfunding opportunity to promote our project to potential community donors. We are grateful for organizations like CCF who each year offers a space connecting donors with projects they care about, and giving to worthwhile causes and help do so much good in our surrounding communities! Go Bears!
